Transfer window: Gideon Mensah joins Cologne until 2028
Ghana international Gideon Mensah is opening a new chapter in his career. The 27-year-old left-back has officially signed with 1. FC Köln until the summer of 2028, following his departure from AJ Auxerre.
Gideon Mensah leaves Auxerre after the longest stint at a single club in his career. Arriving in Burgundy, the Ghanaian defender quickly established himself as a key figure in Auxerre's backline.
He notably played a crucial role in the club's promotion to Ligue 1 before proving himself at the highest level of French football over the past two seasons. Consistent and reliable on the left flank, he earned the trust of his coaches with his defensive prowess and attacking contribution.
A local journey before Europe
Trained in Ghana, Mensah first made his mark at the Milo Games tournament in 2009 before joining the prestigious Feyenoord Academy, which later became WAFA. His European journey then took him to FC Red Bull Salzburg, followed by a loan spell at SV Zulte Waregem.
After impressive spells at Vitória SC and Girondins de Bordeaux, the Black Star now takes on the Bundesliga with ambitions to continue his rise.
