Transfer window: Manchester City sets the price for Sierra Leonean gem Juma Bah at £15m

Juma Bah could already be on the move. Under contract with Manchester City, the young Sierra Leonean centre-back is attracting plenty of attention just weeks before the new season kicks off. According to reports from Nicko, the Citizens have set their demands at £15 million guaranteed—around €17 million—plus up to £10 million in bonuses.

Several clubs are monitoring his situation. Atalanta are particularly interested in the defender, while an unnamed Premier League club has also expressed their intent. Before them, Brentford, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest had already sent scouts to track his progress during his time in France.

A meteoric rise

Juma Bah's journey is nothing short of remarkable. Born and trained in Sierra Leone, the defender quickly caught the eye before making the leap to Europe. In 2024, he joined Real Valladolid. Initially set to play with the reserve team, his physical prowess and maturity fast-tracked his development.

He soon made his La Liga debut, becoming the first Sierra Leonean player to feature in the Spanish top flight. In the first half of the 2024-2025 season, he played 12 La Liga matches—including several starts—proving his potential at the highest level.

Manchester City wasted no time. The English club signed the young defender in January 2025 before loaning him out to RC Lens to continue his growth away from the pressure of the Etihad Stadium.

In France, Bah continued his development. With Lens, he featured in 10 Ligue 1 matches, starting eight of them. His stint in the French league helped him adapt to a more physically demanding style of football and raised his tactical awareness.

The following season, he joined OGC Nice on another loan spell. This marked a new chapter for the Sierra Leonean. He played 26 Ligue 1 games, starting 22, and notched up nearly 2,000 minutes on the pitch. His defensive activity, strength in duels, and aerial presence only strengthened his reputation.

At just 20 years old, Bah already boasts significant experience in three major European leagues: Spain, France, and now the Premier League environment with Manchester City.

Manchester City now has a player with tremendous potential, but his future remains uncertain. The club can either keep Bah to further his development or capitalize on the current interest for a lucrative transfer.

Atalanta, renowned for nurturing young talent, could be the perfect destination for the defender. But competition from English clubs could also be decisive.

With an asking price set at around £15 million, excluding bonuses, the Juma Bah case is a testament to the spectacular rise of a defender who started out in Sierra Leone and is now on the radar of several European clubs.
