Transfer window: Théo Bongonda chooses Saudi Arabia to revive his career

After a lengthy career in Europe, Théo Bongonda is set to take on a new challenge. A free agent, the Congolese international winger is on the verge of signing with Al-Faisaly SC, freshly promoted to the Saudi Pro League. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, both parties have reached an agreement on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old has already joined the Saudi club's pre-season training camp in Slovenia. Only the approval of the Financial Sustainability Committee and a medical examination remain before his move is made official. The signing was recommended by Italian coach Giovanni Solinas, who was looking to bolster his attacking options with an experienced player.

One last adventure after a rich European journey

This transfer marks a turning point in the career of Théo Bongonda. Trained at KRC Genk, the Congolese international went on to play for Celta Vigo, Trabzonspor, Spartak Moscow, and then returned to Genk, where he has featured in recent seasons.

Despite being a free agent, Bongonda is coming off an impressive campaign. In the 2025-2026 season, he featured in 41 matches across all competitions, netting 11 goals and providing 9 assists. These stats highlight his offensive prowess and explain the widespread interest in his profile.

With DR Congo, he also boasts over 40 caps and stands out as a mainstay for the Leopards thanks to his experience and consistency.

Al-Faisaly bets on his experience

Back in the Saudi Pro League, Al-Faisaly is showing big ambitions for their return to the top flight. The club is counting on battle-tested players to secure survival quickly and reestablish themselves among the league’s front-runners.

With his speed, dribbling skills, versatility on the wings, and experience across several European leagues, Théo Bongonda is a top-class reinforcement. For the Congolese winger, this new adventure is also a chance to reignite his career in a booming league that is increasingly attracting international players.

Barring any last-minute surprises, his arrival should be made official in the coming hours, ushering in a new chapter for the former Genk star.
