Tunisia: US Monastir appoints Romain Folz to revive their project

The Tunisian club US Monastir has officially announced the appointment of Romain Folz as head coach. The 36-year-old French tactician has signed a one-year deal and succeeds Tarek Jarraya, who led the team to a fifth-place finish in the Tunisian Ligue 1 last season.

This appointment marks a new chapter in Romain Folz’s African journey, as he has become one of the most seasoned French coaches on the continent over the years. Before joining Monastir, he managed Tanzania’s Young Africans S.C. and recently served as sporting director at Olympique Akbou.

Folz boasts a rich coaching resume across Africa. After starting out as an assistant with the Uganda national team in 2019, he worked with Pyramids FC before taking on his first head coaching roles at Bechem United and subsequently Ashanti Gold S.C. He then moved to Township Rollers FC and later to South Africa, where he became the youngest head coach in the Premier Soccer League with Marumo Gallants F.C.

Strong experience in Southern and West Africa

His career has also seen him on the bench at AmaZulu F.C., Horoya AC, and as an assistant to Manqoba Mngqithi at Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. Folz has also collaborated with Arsène Wenger as part of FIFA’s global football development program.

Romain Folz will be tasked with restoring the club to the upper echelons of Tunisian football and returning them to continental competitions.
