Turkey: Iheanacho on fire, six goals in five games
Kelechi Iheanacho just cannot stop finding the back of the net in Turkey. The Nigerian striker scored twice against Istanbulspor tonight, further confirming his impressive run of form since joining Bursaspor.
Already on the scoresheet in each of his previous four appearances, Iheanacho struck twice again. His latest performance takes his tally to six goals and two assists in five games for the Turkish club.
His impressive run continues
Iheanacho has been decisive in every game during this run. He opened the series with a goal and an assist against Bodrum FK, before scoring again against Iğdır FK. He then found the net against Karagümrük and followed that up with another goal and an assist against Kayserispor. Tonight against Istanbulspor, he capped the run with a brace.
Across five appearances, Iheanacho now has six goals and two assists, giving him eight direct goal contributions. His efficiency has made him one of Bursaspor’s main attacking weapons at the start of the season.
A message to Eric Chelle?
This return to form also comes as competition for places remains fierce in the Super Eagles’ attack. Iheanacho’s performances are therefore likely to catch the attention of head coach Eric Chelle.
At 29, the striker brings considerable international experience. But his strongest case for a return to the national team is currently being made on the pitch with Bursaspor. In just five games, he has already scored six goals and provided two assists.
If he can maintain this pace, Iheanacho will have an increasingly strong case to make to the Super Eagles coaching staff.
