u17 afcon: Burkina Faso tops group B!
Already assured of a spot in the quarter-finals, Burkina Faso wrapped up the group stage of the U17 AFCON in style by defeating South Africa 2-0 on Sunday at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
Three matches, three victories: the U17 Stallions impress and finish at the top of group B in this grand African football showcase.
The scenario could have been very different. Shortly after the match began, the VAR penalized Mikael Coulibaly with a penalty for a foul on Witbooi. But Prince Ouedraogo, standing tall, stopped Bohloko's attempt, keeping his team afloat.
Lookman Tapsoba leads the Stallions!
Thereafter, Oscar Barro's men struggled to capitalize, notably Halidou Diakité, who missed a clear chance. It took until the 65th minute for Lookman Tapsoba to take advantage of a South African error and set up Issouf Bara for the opening goal. Ouedraogo again made a crucial save against Bohloko.
Then, in the 89th minute, the unstoppable Tapsoba sealed the victory with a powerful strike, marking his fourth goal of the tournament. Video:
Thanks to this victory, Burkina avoids Morocco in the quarters. Despite this defeat, South Africa accompanies the Burkinabé, benefiting from Cameroon's defeat to Egypt (1-2).
