Uganda: Khalid Aucho retires from international football
A chapter is closing for Uganda. Khalid Aucho has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished 13-year career with the Cranes.
The end of a 13-year journey
The combative midfielder confirmed his decision in a statement published on Facebook this Monday, October 12. The former Gor Mahia player, 33, made 77 appearances for Uganda.
Three AFCONs and the captain's armband
Khalid Aucho made his international debut on November 30, 2013, against Rwanda at the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup. It was the beginning of a long journey that made him one of East Africa's most reliable midfielders. His influence grew in October 2021 when he was appointed captain by Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević.
During his career, he played in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments: in 2017 in Gabon, in 2019 in Egypt and in 2025 in Morocco.
From my international debut on November 30, 2013, to earning 77 caps and the ultimate honour of captaining our national team, wearing the black, yellow and red jersey has been the greatest privilege of my life
A career between Africa and Europe
At club level, the midfielder spent three seasons at Red Star Belgrade, but he made his biggest mark on the African continent, at Kenya's Gor Mahia and Tanzania's Young Africans, among others.
