Uruguay: Marcelo Bielsa set to leave after World Cup disappointment?

Marcelo Bielsa's tenure as head coach of the Uruguayan national team appears to be drawing to a close. After being knocked out in the group stage of the World Cup, La Celeste is unlikely to extend the Argentine manager's contract, which was set to expire at the end of the tournament.

While several media outlets reported a player revolt against their coach during the competition, Jorge Giordano, director of national teams for the Uruguayan Football Federation, was quick to deny these claims upon his return to Montevideo.

"Honestly, I don't know what has been published. I know that someone mentioned having asked something of the coach, but it doesn't make any sense. This person said they requested a training session with just one group and a discussion with him. Well, what they asked for—a session with one group—did take place. That was their only request," he stated at Montevideo airport.

As for Marcelo Bielsa, he is set to address the media this Tuesday in a press conference at Montevideo's Centenario Stadium. The 70-year-old coach is expected to comment on the reported tensions within the squad as well as his future—which now looks set to continue away from the Uruguayan national team dugout.
