Villarreal opens talks with Al Ahly for Emam Ashour
The Spanish club Villarreal has launched serious efforts to secure the signing of Al Ahly and Egypt national team star Emam Ashour during this summer transfer window.
The Al Ahly board has made an official offer to Emam Ashour to extend his contract for two more seasons, with an annual salary reaching 35 million Egyptian pounds, in a bid to keep hold of their prized asset.
This move from Al Ahly comes in response to the growing interest in the player, especially from clubs like Konyaspor in Turkey and Villarreal in Spain.
Is Emam Ashour closing in on La Liga?
According to Italian journalist Luca Bendoni, Villarreal has placed Emam Ashour among its top transfer targets after his standout performances with Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team.
The Sky journalist wrote on his (X) account: "Villarreal is interested in Emam Ashour, the Al Ahly midfielder who scored two goals for Egypt at the World Cup."
Statistically, since joining Al Ahly in the summer of 2023, Emam Ashour has played 105 matches in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 25 assists.
He also netted his first international goal for the "Pharaohs" during the 2026 World Cup, bringing his total to two goals in 34 appearances for Egypt.
