Wolverhampton: Nasser Djiga named player of the month, a fine reward
Nasser Djiga has been rewarded for his excellent month of September with Wolverhampton. The Burkina Faso defender was voted player of the month by Wolves supporters.
The 23-year-old has thus been rewarded for his impressive start to the season in the defence of the team currently fourth in the Championship.
An undisputed starter in defence
After starting the season on the bench against Port Vale (3-0) in the League Cup (19 minutes played) and in the home match against Blackburn (2-2) in the English second division, the Bobo-Dioulasso native made his first start against Preston NE (1-3).
Since then, he has made a run of starts at centre-back alongside Toti or Ladislav Krejci. The Burkina Faso international (16 caps, 1 goal) has stood out for his solidity and consistency.
He particularly impressed in defence away at Sheffield United (0-1), then a few days later in the derby against West Bromwich Albion (1-0).
Statistics that confirm his progress
This award comes during a period in which Djiga is finally accumulating playing time after a gradual integration since his arrival at Wolverhampton in February 2025.
At 23, the Burkinabe continues to improve after spells in Serbia with Red Star Belgrade, in Scotland with Celtic Glasgow, in France with Nîmes Olympique and in Switzerland with FC Basel 1893.

An award that opens up new ambitions
Beyond the individual trophy, Djiga now wants to contribute to Wolverhampton's collective objective: returning to the Premier League quickly.
“I want to play more and win more matches, because it is important. We have an objective: to return to the Premier League,” he said in an interview with the Wolves' official website.
The upcoming meeting with Middlesbrough (Saturday at 2pm GMT) promises to be a real test between two teams aiming to return to the English top flight.
“It is a big game. They also want to return to the Premier League, so it will be a real battle, but I believe we are going to win,” concluded the Burkina Faso international
