The Falconets chose the perfect moment to go on a rampage. Having suffered a defeat and then a draw, the Nigerians finally turned things around with a 10-1 thrashing of New Caledonia, securing their place in the last 16 of the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Too strong

Against New Caledonia, the Nigerians were in a league of their own. Four goals in 27 minutes sealed the match by half-time. Then six more after the break to add to the tally and secure a historic 10-1 victory. Ramotalahi Kareem and Winner Onajite David each scored a hat-trick. Rebecca Adegbemile added a brace.

A difficult start to the tournament

Nigeria’s campaign had got off to a bad start with a 0–2 defeat to Spain, a tough opponent in Group F. This was followed by a must-win match against China that ended in a frustrating 0–0 draw. With just one point from two matches, the Falconets had their backs against the wall ahead of the final matchday.

Through to the last 16

Thanks to this resounding victory, Nigeria finished second in Group F and qualified for the last 16, where they will face England.
