Brazil will have to do without Lucas Paquetá for their round of 16 clash. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Tuesday that the midfielder has sustained a muscle injury at the back of his left thigh.

After feeling some discomfort, the player underwent imaging tests that confirmed the injury. The Seleção’s medical staff immediately set up an intensive treatment protocol to maximize his chances of returning to action as soon as possible.

In its official statement, the CBF specified that Lucas Paquetá will remain under the supervision of the Brazilian national team’s medical team throughout his recovery. However, no timeline for his absence was provided.

This absence is a major blow for Brazil, who lose one of their key players just before a knockout match, as the Seleção hopes to keep their World Cup campaign alive.
