World Cup 2026: Didier Drogba denounces refereeing after foul on Nicolas Pépé

Ivory Coast's elimination at the hands of Norway continues to spark strong reactions. The Elephants legend, Didier Drogba, did not hide his anger after the match, criticizing both a controversial refereeing decision and the coach’s choices.

Didier Drogba was outspoken about a refereeing decision he believes cost the Ivorians dearly. He especially highlighted an unpunished foul on Nicolas Pépé, insisting that Ivory Coast should have been awarded a penalty. On his social media, the former Elephants captain wrote:

“Shameful, that penalty not given for Nicolas Pépé… What’s the point of VAR?!?!”

Despite his frustration, Drogba praised the Elephants’ performance against Norway.

“The Elephants gave everything. The commitment was there, the fighting spirit too. But I’ll say it clearly: the coach has to stop leaving Amad Diallo on the bench.”

According to him, Norway struck early before being pushed back by Ivorian dominance.

“Norway punished us in the opening minutes. After that, we took control of the match. We had the possession, we created play, and we generated chances. All that was missing was efficiency. On another night, we win this match. It just wasn’t our night.”
