Knocked out in the round of 16 after a 3-0 defeat to Morocco, Canada exits the World Cup. Yet, head coach Jesse Marsch believes his side put in a stronger performance than the Atlas Lions.

The tournament co-hosts started the match on the front foot. In the first half, they created several chances but couldn’t convert them into goals. Morocco, on the other hand, made the difference after the break, showing much greater efficiency in front of goal. After the final whistle, Jesse Marsch surprised many with his assessment. Despite the loss, the Canadian coach insisted his players delivered a better game than their opponents:

We were the better team. Morocco was simply more clinical in the final third, while we lacked sharpness when it came to finishing our chances.

The American manager also stated he preferred his team’s playing style to that of the Atlas Lions, despite the result. However, Jesse Marsch’s comments do nothing to change the outcome. Thanks to this victory, Morocco continues its adventure in this World Cup.
