World Cup 2026: Michael Olise makes World Cup history
Michael Olise made history at the 2026 World Cup by becoming the top assist provider in a single edition of the tournament.
With seven assists, the French international surpasses the previous record set by Pelé, who had six assists at the 1970 World Cup.
An unprecedented record
Thanks to this achievement, Olise now leads the all-time list for most assists in a single World Cup. Trailing him are Pelé (6), along with Diego Maradona and several other players, all credited with five assists.
Heading into the final, the French player is also in pole position to finish as the top assist provider of the 2026 edition. Only Lionel Messi, who has four assists before the final, could still catch up or overtake him if he delivers a stellar performance against Spain.
In addition, Lionel Messi has become, during this World Cup, the all-time top assist provider in the history of the competition with 12 career assists, overtaking Diego Maradona’s 8 and setting yet another historic record.
