Qatar made a bit of history by earning its very first point in a World Cup campaign, after snatching a last-gasp draw against Switzerland (1-1).

In a match long dominated by the Nati, the Swiss took the lead through a penalty converted by Breel Embolo. Solid at the back and more enterprising in midfield, the Swiss seemed set for a well-deserved victory in their opening game of the tournament.

But the plot twisted during stoppage time. Driven by urgency and the intensity of the dying moments, Qatar found the resolve to equalize and snatch an improbable result.

This draw allows the Qataris to kick off their World Cup campaign with a symbolic and valuable point, in a group where every single one could prove crucial for qualification. For Switzerland, however, the result is a bitter pill to swallow, as victory seemed well within their grasp.
