World Cup: Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal could join an exclusive club

Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal are on the verge of making World Cup history. The two Spanish prodigies, both 19 years old, could become only the fourth and fifth teenagers ever to feature in a World Cup final.

So far, only three players under the age of 20 have had the chance to play in a World Cup final. And here's the kicker: every single one of them went on to lift the trophy.

Pelé, Mbappé and Bergomi: legendary predecessors

The first teenager to reach a World Cup final was Brazil's Pelé. At just 17, he played in—and won—the 1958 final against Sweden, becoming the youngest world champion in history.

In 1982, Italy's Giuseppe Bergomi was 18 when he helped the Azzurri clinch the title in the final against West Germany.

More recently, Kylian Mbappé made his mark in 2018. At 19, the French striker hoisted the trophy with Les Bleus after a memorable win over Croatia in the final.

If Pau Cubarsí and Lamine Yamal manage to play in the 2026 World Cup final, they will have the chance to extend an incredible tradition: every teenage finalist has gone on to become a world champion.
