Yamal sets his goals with Barça and outlines his Ballon d’Or ambitions

FC Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal discussed several topics during an interview with French daily L’Équipe. The young forward spoke in particular about the Ballon d’Or race, his goals with Barça and his desire to build his own legacy without comparing himself with those of the past.

Yamal discusses his Ballon d’Or chances

Asked about the Ballon d’Or race, Lamine Yamal said his recent performances speak for themselves.

“Everyone who watches football knows what my arguments are,” the Spain international said.

The Barça player also showed respect for the other contenders, stressing that each of them has arguments to compete for the prestigious award.

“They all have their own arguments. Lionel Messi has his World Cup, while others have different arguments.
If someone says that Messi deserves it or that Rodri deserves it, that is completely respectable,” he added.

The objective of eight La Liga titles

Lamine Yamal has major ambitions with FC Barcelona. After winning three Spanish league titles, the young forward is now targeting a total of seven or eight La Liga triumphs.

“I have won three La Liga titles and I want at least seven or eight,” he said.

The Champions League is also among his priorities. Still absent from his honours list, the European trophy is one of his main objectives for the coming seasons.

He explained:

“I haven’t won the Champions League yet. I want to win it,” he stated.

Regularly compared with football’s greatest legends, Lamine Yamal wants to follow his own path and leave a personal mark on the history of the sport.

“I don’t want to be better than Pelé or Messi. I want to be Lamine Yamal and for people to remember me as Lamine Yamal,” he concluded.
