Zinédine Zidane has chosen to waive a bonus linked to image rights in his contract with the France team. According to L’Équipe, the new manager will receive a fixed salary comparable to that of his predecessor, Didier Deschamps, but will benefit from a restructured bonus system.

A fixed gross salary of €300,000 per month

Contrary to some reports suggesting particularly high financial demands, Zinédine Zidane reportedly did not impose extraordinary salary conditions to take charge of Les Bleus. According to L’Équipe, the French coach will earn €300,000 gross per month, a remuneration comparable to that of Didier Deschamps.

Negotiations over this fixed salary reportedly did not pose an obstacle to his appointment. Zidane’s contract with the French Football Federation (FFF) runs until the end of July 2030.

Why did Zidane waive this bonus?

The main difference concerns bonuses linked to image rights. Until now, the manager had received additional remuneration associated with the national team’s commercial activities and partnerships. This bonus could amount to twice that paid to the players, reaching up to €44,000 per match according to the reported figures.

However, this provision is no longer included in Zidane’s contract. Still according to L’Équipe, this decision is explained by his existing commercial commitments. The former France No. 10 is notably associated with Adidas, while the France team is equipped by Nike. By giving up this remuneration, Zidane avoids a potential conflict of interest between his personal partnerships and those of the national team.

Performance bonuses increased

This waiver does not mean that the manager will be deprived of all additional remuneration. The FFF has reportedly planned to offset the difference by increasing bonuses linked to results achieved in major competitions, notably the World Cup and the Euros. The precise details of this new system have not yet been disclosed. It also remains to be determined whether the Nations League falls within the scope of these bonuses.

Zinédine Zidane began his tenure with two Nations League victories, against Türkiye and Belgium, both by a score of 1-0. Les Bleus’ next fixture is scheduled against Italy. Until the 2030 World Cup, the manager will therefore have several opportunities to achieve the objectives set by the federation.
