2026 World Cup: Breel Embolo prevented from traveling with Switzerland

With the 2026 World Cup set to kick off in just nine days, several national teams are already arriving in the United States, Mexico, or Canada.

Switzerland took off for the United States this Tuesday. But Breel Embolo was unable to board the flight. According to the Swiss Football Association (ASF), speaking to L'Équipe, the reasons are mainly diplomatic.

"Unfortunately, Breel Embolo cannot currently travel to the United States with the team. His ESTA authorization was still approved as of this morning. However, at 10:30 a.m., we were informed that his ESTA application is once again under further review. We are currently in contact with the relevant authorities and expect that Breel will join the team either later today or tomorrow." the ASF explained.
