After scoring a brace against Sweden (3-0) in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, Kylian Mbappé has now tallied 18 goals in the history of football's biggest tournament.

Kylian Mbappé now sits just one goal shy of Lionel Messi's record. Yet, the French captain insists he isn't focused on the Argentine star.

"Do I have that record in mind? No, no, no. The goal is to go as far as possible with the team and to be back here on July 19. Obviously, the more goals I score, the higher up the rankings I'll go. I'm sure Leo will keep scoring too, but I don't pay attention to that. I'm focused on our opponents and the road ahead in the tournament. I want to make history for my country and make people proud," Mbappé told reporters in the mixed zone.
