At the National Stadium of Zimpeto in Maputo, Senegal and Mozambique go into half-time level. Patrick Vieira's Teranga Lions opened the scoring against Mozambique but failed to hold on to their lead on the opening matchday of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Jackson opens the scoring

It was Nicolas Jackson who showed the way. The Aston Villa striker opened the scoring from an assist by Abdallah Sima, a surprise starter for Vieira's first match.

The Mambas respond

Stung, the Mambas were quick to react. Geny Catamo, set up by Witi, brought the two teams level in the 45th+2 minute. At home, Mozambique are holding firm.

Senegal will need to be more enterprising if they are to hope for all three points. On matchday two of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, they will face Ethiopia.
