It's all over at Zimpeto National Stadium. Senegal were held by Mozambique in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. In his first game in charge of the Teranga Lions, Patrick Vieira failed to secure a win.

Vieira begins with a setback

Yet everything got off to a good start with Nicolas Jackson opening the scoring from an Abdallah Sima assist.

But the Mambas, spurred on by their home crowd, responded through Geny Catamo, who was set up by Witi. Despite bringing on his experienced midfielders Lamine Camara, Pape Gueye and Pape Matar Sarr, Senegal were unable to make the difference in the second half against a Mozambique side that refused to yield.

A disappointing result for the Lions, who let two valuable points slip away in the race for top spot in Group J of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, before hosting Ethiopia on matchday two.
