Algeria squad list - World Cup: a likely omission sparks controversy
Even before Vladimir Petkovic officially announces his squad for the 2026 World Cup, the case of Ilan Kebbal is already causing a major controversy.
Algeria has yet to reveal its final squad for the 2026 World Cup, unlike several major African teams such as Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia. According to several reports from Algiers, Vladimir Petkovic is expected to announce his official squad list on May 30 during a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

But even before this announcement, a huge controversy is already brewing over Ilan Kebbal's situation. According to RMC pundit Walid Acherchour, the attacking midfielder is not expected to be included in the Fennecs' World Cup squad, despite a stellar season.
The Franco-Algerian journalist was particularly outspoken:
"Ilan Kebbal will not be on Vladimir Petkovic's list for the World Cup. The most decisive Algerian player in the top five leagues will be absent. The Paris FC player, who defeated the French champions PSG twice this season, not calling him up would be a huge scandal."
With 9 goals and 5 assists this season, Kebbal continues to fuel the debate over the Algerian manager's selection choices.
