Argentina: Emiliano Martinez could retire from international football

Before Lionel Messi, Emiliano Martinez’s journey with the Argentina national team may come to an end following a defeat in the 2026 World Cup final.

Days after the heartbreaking loss to Spain (0-1 after extra time), Emiliano Martinez hinted that he might be considering international retirement.

"I dreamed that we would win it again, I dreamed of bringing it back to Argentina and making history once more. Honestly, this disappointment is hard to put into words: now I have to reflect on many things, see how to move forward and ask myself if it’s time to step aside," he wrote on Instagram.
