A departure from Barcelona has been finalized for Oriol Romeu, bringing his second chapter at the club to a close. Despite having one year remaining on his contract, the 33-year-old midfielder does not feature in the plans of new manager Hansi Flick for the upcoming campaign.

His return to Catalonia two summers ago was a homecoming for a player who had originally left over a decade earlier as one of La Masia's most promising talents.

While his initial spell under Xavi Hernandez showed glimpses of that potential, a combination of injury problems and loss of form gradually saw him fade from prominence. This led to a loan move back to his former club, Girona, for the duration of last season, paving the way for his now-permanent exit.
