In the second preliminary round of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns begin their title defense with an away trip to Angola to face Wiliete in Lubango this Sunday.

The Sundowns head into this match with confidence after their recent MTN8 triumph and after reaching the FIFA Intercontinental Cup semi-finals. It should be noted that the only defeat suffered by Miguel Cardoso's team this season came in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final against Golden Arrows. The Sundowns lead the South African Premiership with 23 points from nine matches.

Wiliete, an in-form opponent

Having been given a bye in the first round of the CAF Champions League, the South Africans face a tricky away trip as they look to preserve their unbeaten record. Wiliete finished second in the Angolan league (Girabola) last season, behind Petro de Luanda. In the first preliminary round, the Angolan side eliminated Seychelles club Foresters Mont Fleuri by an aggregate score of 5-0.

Wiliete have also made an even more convincing start to the season than the previous one. The club sit top of the table after six matchdays, with a record of five wins and one draw.

Where to watch the clash?

The match will kick off later today at 17:00 (South African time). It will be broadcast live on SABC Plus and can be streamed at https://sabc-plus.com.
