Both sides were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations 2026, but Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana have one final challenge ahead: securing a spot in the intercontinental playoff tournament for the upcoming 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The showdown is set for Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 17:00 GMT at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.

Côte d'Ivoire saw their journey end at the hands of Algeria (1-2 defeat) and must seize this last chance if they hope to keep their World Cup dreams alive for the next edition in Brazil.

Ghana faces the same mission after falling to Malawi (1-2), despite taking an early lead through Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah (7’). They were undone by goals from Temwa Chawinga (12’) and Rose Kadzere (79’).

The Ivorians and Ghanaians met twice in 2025 in friendlies, playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw on May 30 before the Elephants edged a 1-0 win on June 3.

They have only met once previously in the WAFCON, back in 2018, where the Black Queens claimed a 1-0 victory.
