Women's AFCON 2026 (Côte d'Ivoire 1-0 Ghana at halftime in playoff)
It was a tough start for Ghana at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. After an early set piece, Côte d'Ivoire seized the advantage and, for now, are holding their ticket to the intercontinental playoffs for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
A cold-blooded penalty for the Elephants
Ghana were slow out of the blocks. A foul in just the 3rd minute had immediate consequences: penalty to Côte d'Ivoire. Inès Konan showed nerves of steel to slot home in the 4th minute. The Ivorian striker now has five goals since the start of this 2026 Women's AFCON. From there, the Ivorians managed the game well—solid and focused, they head into the break with a one-goal lead.
45 minutes to seal the deal
With this 1-0 lead, Côte d'Ivoire are currently on track for the FIFA Women's World Cup intercontinental playoffs. Ghana, meanwhile, must find a quick response if they want to avoid elimination.
