Morocco heads into this Friday, December 26, with a clear objective: win, and secure a ticket to the round of 16. After their opening victory against Comoros (2-0), Walid Regragui describes a pivotal moment:

"The first match is always tricky in the history of AFCON. The second one is different. We're up against a team we know very well, and they know us just as well."

On the other side, Mali comes in needing to bounce back after dropping two points against Zambia (1-1), but without wavering in their beliefs.

"We need points against Morocco," admits Tom Saintfiet,

who rejects the idea of parking the bus:

"We are not coming to sit back. We're going to play attacking football."

A clash steeped in history and expectation

This fixture marks the second meeting between the two nations in an AFCON finals, following the 2004 semifinal, which Morocco won 4-0. Regragui, who started that day, recalls it well:

"Mali has always produced great players. You feel that extra motivation, that hunger for an upset—unfortunately for us."

On the Malian side, Yves Bissouma refocused the debate:

"What matters today is Mali. The rest doesn't concern me."

Tonight, there will be no more history or symbolism—only 90 minutes to seal a fate, or turn it upside down.
