The director of the Egyptian national team, Ibrahim Hassan, did not hold back in his criticism of the refereeing and accommodation conditions following the 1-0 defeat to Senegal in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, currently taking place in Morocco.

Egypt lashes out at refereeing and accommodation standards

Speaking to the Egyptian outlet FilGoal, the Pharaohs’ official revealed that the Egyptian delegation had to stay in a hotel in Tangier that did not meet the required standards. He also lamented the forced trip to Casablanca for the third-place playoff, while Senegal played all their matches in the same city, thus enjoying a longer recovery time.

On the refereeing front, Ibrahim Hassan was unhappy with the appointment of the same referee for two of Egypt’s matches during the tournament. He highlighted the spate of yellow cards, the lack of a red card for Kalidou Koulibaly after an incident with Omar Marmoush, the refusal to award a direct free-kick near the opposition’s area, and what he considered insufficient stoppage time.

He also condemned El Hadji Diouf’s unauthorized intrusion into the dressing room corridor and onto the pitch, claiming that the tournament organizers took no action despite his reports.

Egypt will face Nigeria on Saturday, January 17, in the third-place playoff at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca.
