After months of anticipation, Canadian captain Alphonso Davies is finally ready to step back onto the pitch. The Canada full-back will play his very first match of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 32 against South Africa.

Alphonso Davies' return is symbolic. This match will take place at SoFi Stadium, the very venue where he suffered a torn ACL fifteen months ago—a devastating injury that sidelined him for a long stretch. Head coach Jesse Marsch explained that the staff deliberately delayed his comeback to prioritize his health.

"We were almost certain from the start that he wouldn't play in the group stage. It was tough to tell our best player that we had to wait, but we made this decision in Alphonso's best interest, for his career and his health. Today, he's finally available."

Marsch believes his captain's return is a major boost for Canada.
