Appointed in an emergency to lead Tunisia in the middle of the 2026 World Cup, Hervé Renard has sent a powerful message ahead of his first test against Japan.

Arriving on Tunisia’s bench in a hurry during the 2026 World Cup following the departure of Sabri Lamouchi, Hervé Renard immediately set the direction ahead of the showdown with Japan. The French tactician stressed that the Carthage Eagles’ resurgence would depend first and foremost on hard work and collective commitment.

"There are no magicians in football. It's about hard work, preparation, and then being sharp and efficient at the right moment," he stated,

before adding:

"We have to play the perfect match as a team. I’ve taken over a group that’s open to new ideas. They’re fighters and eager for redemption. Determination will be key."

However, the former Morocco coach refuses the label of savior despite the urgent situation. "It's easy to talk. I’ve heard people call me a wizard, but I’m not a wizard," Renard concluded, as he prepares to revive a Tunisia side that suffered a heavy defeat to Sweden (5-1) in their opening match.
