Manchester United will play their 300th match in the history of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League this Thursday, becoming the first English club to reach the milestone. The clash with Sabah FK also marks the Mancunians’ return to the competition after their last appearance in the 2023/24 season.

For their opening game in the league phase, United are strong favourites against the Azerbaijani side. The Manchester club will be looking to make the most of this special occasion, mark their return to the European stage in style and begin their campaign with a victory.

A return after three seasons

Manchester United had not played in the Champions League since the 2023/24 season. Their last campaign in the competition ended with a group-stage exit, as they finished fourth behind Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

The club is therefore returning to a competition that holds a special place in its history. This 300th appearance in the European Cup/Champions League adds an extra dimension to United’s return.
