Colombia vs Switzerland: FA Backs Jaminton Campaz Following Post-Match Death Threats

On Friday, Colombia’s FA condemned death threats targeting midfielder Jaminton Campaz after his costly miss led to their World Cup exit.

The Colombian national team saw their tournament journey end on Tuesday after a grueling Round of 16 battle against Switzerland which concluded in a painful penalty shootout.

During extra time, the Rosario Central midfielder found himself with a golden opportunity to secure victory but fired his shot wide of the target. Immediately after the final whistle, a toxic wave of abuse flooded the player's social media channels forcing him to lock down his profiles.

For his own safety, the midfielder chose not to board the official team charter back to South America.

Federation calls for prosecutorial action

The Colombian Football Federation released an official statement on Friday, firmly declaring that no sportsperson or their loved ones should ever face intimidation for representing the national team.

To ensure the midfielder's safety, the governing body formally requested the nation's Attorney General to launch an immediate, expedited investigation to track down the individuals behind the digital threats.

Campaz also broke his silence on Instagram posting a photo of himself shielding his face in despair, accompanied by a poignant plea urging supporters to remember that no sporting passion justifies hatred or fear.
