While his name has been primarily linked with the Qatari club Al Duhail, he could also make his high-profile return at the helm of a national team.
According to the Iraqi press, Belmadi is on the shortlist of coaches being considered to take charge of the "Lions of Mesopotamia."
The Iraqi Football Federation is expected to finalize the appointment of a new head coach in the coming weeks.

A sabbatical season
The former Olympique de Marseille player took a sabbatical during the 2024-2025 season, mainly due to family commitments.
The last time he sat on the bench was in January 2024, during the defeat to Mauritania on matchday three of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025).
