FC Barcelona: this player set to extend his contract until 2031
FC Barcelona are continuing their work to secure Marc Bernal’s future. According to Sport and Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club have reached an agreement with their young midfielder to extend his contract by two additional seasons, until June 2031. The release clause is expected to remain set at €500 million.
Agreement reached with the Barcelona board
At 19, Marc Bernal is considered one of the most promising young talents to come through La Masia. Valued by Hansi Flick, the defensive midfielder has gradually reclaimed his place in the squad after a serious knee injury kept him out for more than a year.
According to reports in the Spanish press, the new agreement provides for an extension until 2031, along with a salary increase. The official signing still needs to formalize the agreement.
A €500 million clause to protect him
The €500 million release clause is not new. Barça had already included it in Bernal’s previous contract and plans to retain it in the new deal. This amount is intended to protect the club from potential interest from other teams, particularly in the Premier League, where several Barcelona youngsters are regularly monitored.
Despite the competition in midfield, Bernal remains a player Barça want to build around in the long term. His technical ability, reading of the game and capacity to play in front of the defence match the demands of Flick’s project.
