On Saturday evening, Lamine Yamal came close to being sent off during FC Barcelona’s impressive 5-2 victory over Real Betis in La Liga.

The young Catalan winger found himself at the centre of a confrontation with Facundo Bernal. After already checking on Fermín López, who had fallen to the ground following a challenge, Yamal pushed Valles before being shoved by the Uruguayan midfielder. The Barcelona star reacted vehemently in a tense sequence that could have cost him dearly, as he had already been shown a yellow card.

Flick reacted quickly

Fully aware of the major risk, Lamine Yamal was eventually substituted by Hansi Flick. The coach even leaned in to say a few words in his ear as he left the pitch. Raphinha also urged him to leave the field quickly to avoid a second booking.

It must be said that this nervousness contrasts with the composure Lamine Yamal usually displays on the pitch. After scoring one goal and providing an assist against Betis, he once again demonstrated his attacking importance for Barça, but this episode serves as a reminder that controlling his emotions remains an issue.

On the next matchday, Barça will face Real Madrid in the Clasico next weekend. On Tuesday, the Catalans will take on PSG in the Champions League.
