FIFA: commercial enterprise, Asian Confederation criticizes Gianni Infantino

Since Monday, the controversy surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise project has continued to spark reactions from football's governing bodies. This comes especially after a 2026 World Cup in Donald Trump's United States that has been the subject of much debate.

Just hours after criticism from UEFA and Concacaf, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) issued a statement. In the release, it expressed regret over not being consulted prior to FIFA’s announcement. The Asian body stated that "a matter of such significance" should not have been made public before "the AFC family had the opportunity to review and discuss it through the appropriate and established governance channels."

The AFC acknowledges "the importance of exploring innovative approaches to strengthen the future of global football". However, it insists that any project of this scale must be based on "the principles of good governance, transparency, and constructive consultation."

The AFC is also calling for more time and information before any decision is made. It stresses that "all stakeholders must have sufficient information and adequate time to fully assess the proposal", particularly its "governance, legal, commercial, and strategic" implications.
