FIFA makes a strong gesture in Palestine

FIFA has announced the opening of two football pitches in Palestine. The facilities, located in Qusin, in the northern West Bank, and Marah Rabah, south of Bethlehem, are intended to provide children and residents of local communities with new spaces dedicated to football and sporting activities.

Two facilities opened to the public

The two pitches were built as part of the FIFA Arena programme, launched in 2025 to promote access to football and support sporting and social development in different communities.

In Qusin and Marah Rabah, the facilities are expected to host 14 local teams. A five-day tournament is also planned, with the participation of more than 150 children. In addition to the matches, several football-related activities will be organised for children and residents of the surrounding villages and localities.

Opening ceremony scheduled for September 25

The pitches were developed in collaboration with the Palestinian Football Association, with financial support from the Swiss government. The official opening of the two facilities is scheduled for September 25.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasised the importance of providing accessible spaces for children and young people.

It is more important than ever to have a place where they can play football, meet their friends and take part in sporting activities.

The FIFA Arena project ultimately plans to build at least 1,000 pitches in 100 countries by 2031.
