Lucas Digne embodied disappointment against Spain (0-2) in the semi-final of this 2026 World Cup last Tuesday.

On Instagram this Thursday, the Aston Villa defender spoke out.

"So, that's the end of a dream. The dream of a little boy, and surely that of thousands of people behind us. We always imagine a lot of things, often the most beautiful ones. But the end of a dream can sometimes be tough, and waking up even more brutal. The hardest part today is finding the words to express this immense disappointment. First, I'm disappointed in myself. Also disappointed for this team, for all the efforts we've put in, and for this incredible group of players. I'm also thinking of all those who traveled, as well as those who supported us from France and around the world. Your support carried us throughout this journey. Despite this huge disappointment, I'm still proud to have represented our country, with all its richness, its diversity, and all the people who make it up. Thank you for everything, for your support and for all these emotions. You have been incredible throughout the competition. It's not over, we still have a podium to chase," wrote Lucas Digne.

He will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow in the third-place playoff, where France will face England.
