Germany then beat Ivory Coast 2-1, with Deniz Undav’s brace for the late comeback.

The key result came against Curaçao. Ivory Coast won 2-0, the final score and reports noting Nicolas Pepe’s decisive double. That victory sent the Elephants into the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Norway ended the run, but not the achievement

Ivory Coast’s first knockout match ended in a 2-1 defeat to Norway on 30 June 2026. Antonio Nusa scored first, Amad Diallo equalised and Erling Haaland hit the winner in the 86 minute.

The loss hurt but the tournament still changed Ivory Coast’s World Cup status. For the first time, they were not just a talented team that fell short in the group stage. They were a knockout-stage side.
