Ghana: Eddie Nketiah considers switching international allegiance to the Black Stars

Eddie Nketiah is considering his international future and could choose to represent Ghana rather than England. The Crystal Palace striker, who was born in London to Ghanaian parents, has not yet made a definitive decision.

The matter has been revived in recent weeks. According to The Standard, Ghana has made a fresh approach to Nketiah, who is currently weighing up his options regarding his future with the national teams.

At 27, the striker already has international experience with England. He represented the youth teams and has made one appearance for the Three Lions. That came in October 2023, in a friendly won 1-0 against Australia at Wembley. Nketiah came on in the 73rd minute for Ollie Watkins.

That appearance does not prevent him from representing Ghana. Since his only appearance for England’s senior team came in a non-competitive match, Nketiah remains eligible to change associations, provided he meets the conditions set out in FIFA regulations. The governing body also updated its guidelines on eligibility and changes of association in September 2026.

Reports published in Ghana go further. GhanaSoccerNet claims that the documents required for a potential application to FIFA are being prepared. This information has not been officially confirmed by FIFA or the Ghanaian federation in the sources consulted.

For now, the change of association is therefore not official. Nketiah still has to make his choice before any potential procedure with FIFA can be completed. Ghana, for its part, is continuing its efforts to convince the Crystal Palace striker to join the Black Stars.
