Guinea: Serhou Guirassy breaks into the top 10 of the Syli national’s all-time leading scorers
Serhou Guirassy scored the only goal in Guinea’s 1-0 win over Kenya, on Thursday at the 28 September Stadium in Conakry, in the second round of AFCON 2027 qualifying. His 32nd-minute strike took his tally to 12 goals for the Syli national and earned him a place in the top 10 of the national team’s all-time leading scorers.
Deployed as the focal point of the attack, the Dortmund striker opened the scoring before half-time with his first clear chance. His goal was enough for Guinea to claim their first three points of the campaign, following their 2-1 defeat to South Africa on the opening matchday. The Syli have therefore revived their hopes in Group D, where South Africa sit top with six points after victories over Guinea and Eritrea.
Guirassy joins three former internationals on 12 goals
With this latest strike, Guirassy joins Fodé Camara, Ibrahim “Petit Sory” Keïta and Mohamed Lamine Yattara, who also have 12 goals for the national team, according to the RSSSF’s historical records. Ibrahima Kandia Diallo remains Guinea’s all-time leading scorer with 33 goals, ahead of Pascal Feindouno (30) and Titi Camara (27). Guirassy has now established himself among the most prolific players in the history of the Syli national.
This 12th goal also takes his tally in AFCON qualifying to eight, across all campaigns. The striker also has three goals in friendly matches and one in World Cup qualifying, giving him 12 goals in 28 appearances for Guinea. After their opening defeat to South Africa, the Syli must now build on this momentum to stay in touch with the leaders in the race to qualify for AFCON 2027.
