Negotiations over the transfer of Ivorian striker Ibrahim Diabaté (26), currently playing for Swedish club GAIS, to the Emirati side Al Sharjah have hit a major roadblock in the final hours of the winter transfer window.

Talks at a standstill

According to several Swedish media outlets, including Expressen, the two clubs failed to reach a final agreement on the terms of the deal, jeopardizing the striker’s move to the United Arab Emirates league.

In light of this setback, Al Sharjah’s management has reportedly begun to explore alternative attacking options to bolster their forward line.

For the record, Sky Sports had previously reported that a deal was close, with the transfer fee estimated at around $2.3 million, despite interest from English side Leicester City in the Ivorian forward.

Meanwhile, Swedish club GAIS is currently facing a challenging financial period, prompting them to consider selling their top scorer to ease economic difficulties.

Since joining GAIS at the start of 2025, Ibrahim Diabaté has quickly made his mark with a string of impressive performances. He has featured in 33 matches, netting 19 goals and firmly establishing his importance within the Swedish squad.
