Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored a brace on Saturday against Batman Petrolspor to take his tally to 11 goals in eight 1. Lig matches. He has scored in each of his league appearances and has matched a run achieved by Fernandao with Bursaspor in 2014-2015.

Kelechi Iheanacho was decisive for Bursaspor once again. On Saturday, September 19, the Nigerian striker scored both of his team’s goals in their 2-1 away win over Batman Petrolspor on the occasion of the eighth round of the 1. Lig.

Bursaspor had nevertheless conceded the opening goal in the 29th minute, scored by Doria. Iheanacho levelled the scores from the penalty spot in the 60th minute before giving his side the win in the 85th. This brace takes his tally to 11 goals and two assists in eight league matches. Above all, he has scored in each of those eight games.

Eight consecutive matches like Fernandao

This run allows Iheanacho to equal a record set by Fernandao in a Bursaspor shirt. The Brazilian striker found the net in eight consecutive Süper Lig rounds during the 2014-2015 season, between the 12th and 19th rounds. UEFA notably highlighted this run after his eighth consecutive match with at least one goal.

Fernandao began the run against Kasımpaşa before extending it through the match against Gençlerbirliği. He finished that season with 22 league goals.

More than ten years later, Iheanacho has therefore reached the same mark, this time in Turkey’s second division. His last three rounds in particular featured goals against Manisa FK, Esenler Erokspor and Batman Petrolspor.

The next round could allow him to set a new club record. If he scores again, Iheanacho will extend his run to nine consecutive matches with at least one goal.

11 goals in eight rounds

Having joined Bursaspor this summer after his spell at Celtic, Iheanacho quickly moved to the top of the 1. Lig scoring charts. His brace against Batman Petrolspor allows him to retain first place with 11 goals.

The Nigerian officially joined Bursaspor on July 18, 2026, on a contract running until June 30, 2029, according to data from the Turkish Football Federation.

With this latest victory, Bursaspor remain top of the league after eight rounds. The club have six wins and one draw, giving them 19 points.

For Iheanacho, the next league fixture will therefore be an opportunity to surpass Fernandao’s run of eight matches and write his name into a new club record.
