Liga: this club forced to leave its stadium

A tough blow for Rayo Vallecano. According to AS, the Spanish club will likely be unable to play its first home matches at its own ground, the Estadio de Vallecas, due to renovation work mandated by Madrid authorities.

Estadio de Vallecas: up to six months of closure

An inspection revealed several safety standard breaches, leading to the temporary closure of the venue. The head of sports for the Community of Madrid, Mariano de Paco, confirmed that the length of the works remains uncertain.

The renovations begin this July 29 and will focus in particular on fire safety, sanitary facilities, and the overall condition of the stadium. If the work is not completed on time, Rayo Vallecano will need to find another stadium to host its La Liga fixtures. Their first home game is scheduled for August 20 against Deportivo Alavés. Last season’s Conference League finalist, the Madrid club could therefore start this new campaign far from their supporters.

Commentary

This closure represents a real challenge for Rayo Vallecano. Beyond the sporting constraints, playing in a temporary stadium could impact attendance, club revenues, and the home atmosphere. On the plus side, the renovations will provide the club with a more modern venue that meets safety requirements for seasons to come.
