Liverpool: Andoni Iraola considers Bradley Barcola up front
Interview
Bradley Barcola could be moved into the centre-forward role at Liverpool. With injuries to Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo reducing the Reds' attacking options, Andoni Iraola is considering using the France international through the middle.
Barcola, a solution to make up for the absences
Having joined from Paris Saint-Germain in August, Bradley Barcola has made just three Premier League appearances for Liverpool, starting two of them. He has yet to score or provide an assist, but his manager believes he can contribute more by taking on different roles in attack. Speaking to ESPN, Andoni Iraola stressed the versatility and importance of the 24-year-old.
He is a top-class player for us. I think he can play in any position in attack.
The former Lyon player has mainly operated on the left, but he has also been used on the right and through the middle. This versatility could prove particularly useful as Liverpool prepare to host Manchester City.
Iraola is counting on his versatility
The Spanish coach believes that Barcola can cover all three attacking positions. This ability to change roles would allow the Reds to retain several tactical options despite the absences.
He has probably played mostly as a left winger, but also a little as a centre-forward and more as a right winger. I think he can cover all three positions in attack. He is an extremely valuable player for us.
Under contract until the summer of 2031, Barcola still has several seasons to establish himself permanently in the Liverpool project.
