On Sunday, after Manchester City's resounding 0-3 Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield, Enzo Maresca was relieved when discussing the explosive case opposing the Cityzens and the English champions.

Questioned at a press conference about these proceedings, which could have serious consequences, Enzo Maresca showed his impatience to finally be able to speak freely about the matter. “You cannot imagine how happy I am… I hope I can speak about this situation (the proceedings) when we win our appeal!” he said.

This statement comes as Manchester City remains embroiled in a major legal battle after being found responsible for almost all of the 115 financial breaches of which it was accused by the independent commission. “After 10 or 15 years, when the club is winning titles and putting the right strategies in place to win them, and then suddenly this happens… I don't think it is pleasant for them. But a process is underway, and we will see how it ends,” added the former Chelsea coach.

Negotiations at a standstill

Enzo Maresca's statement comes after Bloomberg revealed that confidential discussions had taken place between Manchester City and the Premier League. The aim was to reach a possible settlement. However, according to the American outlet, the negotiations are said to have failed, notably because the club refused to acknowledge the allegations against it.

Manchester City continues to challenge the commission's conclusions and has launched an appeal.
