Premier League: Enzo Maresca joins Guardiola, Ancelotti and Solskjær
By winning his first six Premier League matches in charge of Manchester City, Enzo Maresca has equalled a record achieved by three coaches before him. The Italian joins Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the history of the English league.
Enzo Maresca has written his name into the Premier League record books. On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Manchester City secured a 3-0 victory away to Liverpool at Anfield, recording a sixth consecutive league win since the Italian coach took charge. The result allowed the Citizens to maintain a perfect record after six matches and their manager to equal an achievement previously reached by three of his predecessors.
Goals from Erling Haaland in the 65th minute, Jérémy Doku in the 68th and Rayan Cherki in the 78th sealed the victory. With 18 points from a possible 18, Manchester City sit top of the table, three points clear of Arsenal. Maresca’s team have scored 16 goals and conceded five in their first six league matches.

Ancelotti, Guardiola and Solskjær had already achieved this run
Carlo Ancelotti was the first of the three coaches to achieve this feat. During the 2009-2010 season, the Italian won his first six league matches with Chelsea before leading the Blues to the Premier League title.
Pep Guardiola repeated the feat with Manchester City at the start of the 2016-2017 season. Despite the perfect start, his team finished the campaign in third place, behind Chelsea and Tottenham.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær also recorded six consecutive league victories after being appointed Manchester United’s caretaker manager in December 2018. The Red Devils ultimately finished the 2018-2019 season in sixth place.
Maresca has therefore joined three coaches whose careers took different paths. Their winning starts represent the same statistical achievement, but do not guarantee an identical outcome at the end of the season.
A new record in sight
Manchester City can now give their manager the opportunity to reach a new milestone. A victory over Ipswich Town in the next matchday would give Maresca seven wins in his first seven Premier League matches in charge of a club, a run never achieved before in the competition’s history.
After this successful trip to Anfield, the Citizens will look to extend their run. Maresca has already equalled the best start by a manager in the English league. He now needs to turn this achievement into sustained momentum throughout the season.
